Brandi Carlile, "Raise Hell" Vevo Session

Brandi Carlile is an artist I feel like I should have discovered a long time ago. But at the same time, I'm glad I discovered her music this past year, since her new album "Bear Creek" is pretty much phenomenal. Such simplistic songs like "Keep Your Heart Young", talking about how we can't take life too seriously, remind me of easier times, before I had a steady job and monthly bills to pay. Sometimes I get hung up on all the responsibilities I have, and forget that I need to remember, I'm only 26. I have my whole life to work and I need to keep enjoying myself and my life from time to time. Other tunes like "100" and "That Wasn't Me" give off such an old, back porch country sound that you'll feel like you've been transported to the country-side of Tennessee. The song I'm sharing is "Raise Hell", which she describes a little about at the beginning of the video. Read on if you wish to hear why I posted this video. If not, just enjoy the video.

For the past few years I've interned with an organization called Folk Alliance. The organization brings together folk artists and musicians from around the world to perform and network for a week. The past five years have seen the conference located here in Memphis, and Carlile really captures the old folk/country sound on her new album. From the music I've listened to from her before this album, she's been primarily piano and guitar based, but always had some country in her. Bear Creek brings out the absolute best in her, and proves that she is absolutely in her prime.

The reason I bring up the Folk Alliance is because of the nature of how the video was produced and created. VEVO is a more professional, high-quality video site, similar to Vimeo, and they work very closely with music artists when it comes to their videos. I find these acoustic sessions and in-studio versions of tracks to be some of the most real forms of music out there today. What is more real and raw than a great singer and her guitar, with three part harmonies? Folk Alliance prides itself on bringing hundreds of artists together and having hotel rooms bursting at the seams with people and great music. Imagine sitting down on a bed in a hotel room and having the event above happen right in front of you. If you're like me, the music takes on a much more personal and loving feel. You know where these people have been, you've walked in their shoes for a few minutes. Make sure you're keeping your heart young. Enjoy what you have now.
